Pool Planning and Construction for the Four Seasons
If you've been considering installing an in-ground swimming pool, you might be wondering, when is the best time of year to begin construction? The short answer: anytime but winter.
In the winter months, it's best to use your time for planning your in-ground pool. You need to decide on a site, find a contractor, and figure out an appropriate design for your pool. By beginning to make these decisions in the winter, you can be ready for an early spring installation.
By installing your pool in the spring or early summer, you can enjoy several months of use in its first year. In general, you can expect pool installation to take one to two months. Most pool companies begin installing pools around the end of March and the beginning of April.
Swimming pool installation in late summer and early fall might not seem ideal, since you'll have only limited time to enjoy your new pool before it gets too cold to swim. However, there are benefits to installing your pool late in the season.
For example, swimming pool installers tend to have less business late in the year, and sometimes offer installation deals as a result.
Also, lighter precipitation in late summer leaves the ground at its firmest and driest. In-ground pools are easier to dig when the ground is firm. When the ground is dry, heavy digging equipment is far less likely to damage your landscaping than in the wetter season. Digging in summer may reduce the need to repair your landscaping once the pool is in place. Since fall is also an ideal time to lay sod and plant many types of perennial plants, you can be ready to enjoy your beautifully landscaped pool when spring arrives.
